Standby... we're almost ready to go!  Momentum is building for the 2019 Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards gala event on Friday 25 October at the majestic Williamstown Town Hall. On the night, we acknowledge and celebrate stand-out businesses who demonstrate excellence across 12 categories. One operator will be recognised for their outstanding business practices in 'Excellence in Sustainability'. All category finalists will be eligible to take home 'Business of the Year' award. Celebrate with business heroes, snap up the few remaining tickets before they sell out.

Now is the time to invest in festive lights to brighten up shop fronts in readiness for the Shops on Show media competition. We're calling on retailers to register their interest and provide us with a snap of your creative handiwork, along with your Facebook and Instagram details by 15 November. Visitors and residents will then vote by liking their favourite festive façade on social media, so get a jingle on.

Put on your best festive façade

'Shops on Show' is a Council initiative to encourage local residents to shop local at Christmas and vote for their favourite Christmas shop window. It was lots of fun last year and will be returning this December.

Having your Christmas shop window included is a great way to get free promotion for your business and to create local interest and positive social media.

To register:

     1. email eciolli@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au expressing your interest to register
     2. provide your contact, Facebook and Instagram details by Friday 15 November

Council will require a photo of your decorated front shop window Christmas display by Wednesday 27 November.

TIP – invest in some Christmas lights to brighten your store window display at night. The shops that did this last year looked so pretty. It doesn’t have to be expensive, simple lights look effective and festive.

If there are tourism, retail or hospitality businesses who would like to sponsor prizes for the upcoming promotion there are still opportunities. Please get in touch with Emma Ciolli, Council’s Retail and Tourism Development Officer at eciolli@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.  Information can be found on our webpage.

Council hosted several events during the first week of September, aimed at inspiring and connecting local tourism operators, retail and hospitality businesses with a Digital Masterclass presented by Tourism eSchool and a networking event at Heart of Hall Cooking School & Café in Newport.

We had great feedback, where attendees indicated the content was useful, practical and was directly applied to their business and social channels.

Lots of connections were made at the inaugural networking event which had a real buzz in the room. Thank you to our speakers from Visit Victoria, Western Melbourne Tourism and Heart of Hall.   #experiencehobsonsbay
